JAPANESE ARUARU
After using the bathroom at a Japanese friend’s home, a guest may return still wearing its special slippers. The host’s gaze drops from face to feet. The conversation continues, but the feet need to make a return trip.
A Japanese friend calls: “Is now a good time?” You say yes. “There’s something I wanted to ask.” You invite them to continue, and the question finally arrives. Even a short call can have several doorways.
