JAPANESE ARUARU
After placing an order, a Japanese traveler may turn to a friend with a small thumbs-up. Then the server asks about size. The hand pauses halfway, and both return to the menu. The finish line apparently has one more corner before it.
A Japanese traveler may order in another language, then finish with an automatic “arigatou.” An attempt to try again produces another “arigatou.” The server has already handed over the cup. The thank-you is taking longer than the order.
