A Japanese traveler may put their shoes back on to leave the hotel room, remember something, then slip them off again. To the local friend waiting by the door, the footwear has already made several round trips. The outing itself has yet to begin.
On a train where passengers press a button to open the doors, a traveler from Japan may simply stand and wait. Another passenger reaches over from behind and presses it. The train had reached the station; the door was waiting for one more signal.
